16 million for a climate change adaptation project in Guinea

The Canada Research Chair in Ecological Economics and UPA Développement international have announced the launch of the project "Femmes Pro-Forêts: Adaptation aux changements climatiques dans le Parc national du Moyen-Bafing (PNMB)" project. in which Habitat will act as scientific collaborator.

As part of this project, the Research Chair will focus on the implementation of nature-based solutions in agroforestry contexts for adaptation to climate change, the socio-economic evaluation of the ecosystem services provided, and the development of a pilot payment mechanism adapted to the specificities of forest conservation for the benefit of vulnerable populations, particularly women.

Through this project, we aim to make a concrete contribution to the adaptation of women and their families to climate change by supporting them in implementing nature-based solutions in areas of high biodiversity value in the PNMB.

As a scientific collaborator, Habitat's role will be to 1. model ecological connectivity and assess ecosystem services in order to identify priority areas for the implementation of nature solutions, 2. support the development of a biodiversity and land-use monitoring tool, and 3. provide technical, material and financial support for the selection of tree species promoting resilience and adaptation to climate change.
