NSCSF financing: An opportunity to seize for your conservation and restoration projects

The Nature Smart Climate Solutions Fund (NSCSF) represents a unique opportunity to finance projects that actively contribute to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and protecting ecosystems.

With a budget of $1.4 billion, this federal program aims to reduce annual GHG emissions by 5 to 7 megatonnes by 2030. It supports projects ranging from $75,000 to $50 million that preserve, restore and improve the management of natural environments such as forests, wetlands, peatlands and grasslands, as well as agricultural land.

The program is open to any Canadian organization, including local governments, Aboriginal organizations, private companies and NPOs. Projects must have a significant impact on carbon storage and emissions reduction, while incorporating ecological co-benefits.

At Habitat, we support our customers in identifying and implementing the right solutions for this program, while maximizing the environmental benefits.

How can Habitat help you?

We offer several services aligned with NSCSF eligibility criteria, to help you maximize the positive impact of your projects:

Conversion avoided (conservation) :

  • Identification of carbon-rich areas to meet NSCSF selection criteria.

  • Conservation plans that optimize other co-benefits such as ecological connectivity, pollination and erosion reduction.

  • Modeling and consideration of current and potential threats to targeted natural environments.

Catering :

  • Identification of sites of low ecological value to be restored.

  • Effective restoration recommendations rooted in natural solutions.

  • Selecting species adapted to the future climate to improve site resilience to biotic and abiotic threats.

Improved management :

  • Optimize farmland management with natural solutions (windbreaks, intercropping, silvopasture).

  • Improved forest management practices to maximize carbon storage and promote biodiversity.
